This is a process in which we work with patients that have prominent ears or that are basically
extended outwards, giving the patient the aspect of large ears. The candidates for this surgery are
those children and adults that are unhappy with the shape and/or size of their ears. Generally, it's a
surgery that can be done in children between 7-14 years old, due to the fact that by this age the ears
are fully grown.
This surgery is done with local anesthesia, with small scarring that are hidden behind the ears. It
takes us approximately one hour and the patient can walk to their house. La majority of the patients,
children and adults, are fine after a few hours from the surgery.
A bandage is wrapped around the patients head at the end of the surgery. The ears might hurt a little
the first days, but the pain is easily treated with medicine. In general the adults can return to their
work five days after the surgery; the children may return to school after seven days, as long as they
are careful during physical activities.
